Eating healthy is a feel-good factor for me and I always try to encourage my little one to eat healthy as well. Just like me, I know that you are also trying to do the same.

As parents, the health of our kids is always the #1 priority. But when kids are too fussy about food, it can make your job as a parent a bit difficult.

Here are my tips for encouraging children to eat healthy:

  • Load up more Veg & Fruits: Look for ways to add more vegetables and fruits (veg much more than fruits) into recipes. Smoothies are a great way to hide these nutrients.
  • Be patient: New eating habits will take time. Don’t lose patience with little ones.
  • Don’t force children to eat: Try to feed them 3-4 times, if they still don’t eat, try another meal.
  • Have regular feeding times: For example – breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner. Always present your children with their healthy food first.
  • Learn to trust your children: We live in times of plenty and we have to learn when to stop eating. Trust your child when they say “enough” (It’s a li’l difficult, I know.)

The above tips are definitely going to help you encourage your kids to eat healthy food without forcing them. Keep in mind that some children will be more difficult than others. You will require more effort and patience dealing with them. If they haven’t had good eating habits since they were little, remember that you are not going to change your child’s eating habits overnight.

However, experts are of the opinion that habits developed at an early age remain with the children till adulthood. So, keep trying to offer healthy food options to your child right away. Even if your child is a little bigger now, you can get started now. Expose your children to healthy foods in a fun and positive way.

Monitoring eating habits at an early age can help kids maintain healthy weight. Let your child experiment with new foods and give them healthy options even when they go out for dinner. Let them have sweets or their favorite snacks occasionally.
