Chloe Deol, N.D.

A native of Orange County, California, Dr. Chloe Deol is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in the state of California and a graduate of Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. She began her pre-medical education at the University of California San Diego, earning her Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and minor in Spanish linguistics. In addition to her medical degree, Dr. Deol completed advanced training in gynecology, diabetes and vascular disease, environmental medicine, toxin exposure, IV therapy, neural therapy and various other injection therapies to support athletic performance and manage pain.

In her free time, Dr. Deol enjoys going to the beach, hiking, running, playing piano, catching some live music and spending time with her family and friends.

A Seed Is Planted

“Our bodies are designed to be in balance,” explains Dr. Deol. “When we are imbalanced, we experience disease, or what some of us call ‘dis-ease’ — a state of discomfort or illness.”

Balance takes many forms in Dr. Deol’s world. From nurturing diverse passions in music and sports, to building bridges between naturopathic and conventional medicine, to helping patients achieve whole-person wellness across mind, body and spirit, the pursuit of balance is a thread woven through both her personal and professional lives.

This holistic approach to life and medicine took root at an early age. As a child, Dr. Deol watched her mother battle health issues involving autoimmunity and chronic fatigue syndrome. Hundreds of visits to different doctors and clinics failed to provide a diagnosis. Eventually, her mother met with a naturopathic doctor, an experience that would change the trajectory of her health and her daughter’s future career.

“I’ll never forget what she said after that,” Dr. Deol recalls. “She told me the doctor saw her as a person and acknowledged her symptoms were real. It didn’t matter to her whether they could diagnose her right away because she finally felt heard.”

“As a track athlete, my goal was to be the fastest and win every race. Now, I want to win for my patients. I’m determined to get to the bottom of their problems and win over their health.”

A Purposeful Path

Dr. Deol’s conviction in the power of naturopathic medicine wasn’t shaped solely by her mother’s experiences. As a teenager, she faced her own health issues, including acne and gut discomfort. After seeing limited benefits from antibiotics and Accutane, she took matters into her own hands. She overhauled her diet and completed a rigorous gut cleanse. To her amazement, she found both her complexion and energy levels transformed by this natural protocol.

“I felt stronger, my face was clearer than ever, and I realized there’s actually something to this holistic approach. Your body will respond given the right inputs,” she says.

This direct experience further solidified her path. By junior high school, she knew she wanted to go to Bastyr University to study naturopathic medicine. “It felt like a calling,” she says. “I loved that this medicine has so many different modalities and you’re not just a wizard with prescriptions or pharmacology — you can offer so much more to the patient.”

After completing her pre-medical education at UC San Diego and working as a naturopathic medical assistant for a year, Dr. Deol made the journey from Orange County to Seattle to attend Bastyr.

“It was challenging, moving to a new state, away from family and friends,” she says. “But I knew I couldn’t pass up the chance to learn from some of the pioneers of naturopathic medicine.”

“I can see my patients in a different light because I’ve been in their shoes. I know what it’s like when the labs don’t say anything, but you know in your body that something’s wrong.”

An Opportunity Arises

Dr. Deol’s openness to new experiences continues to serve her well. When she found herself at a crossroads in her career, fielding job offers in multiple states, she nearly stayed in Southern California to be close to family. However, a serendipitous web search pointed her to the Bay Area.

“I was looking online for naturopathic doctors in California, and Dr. Young’s office came up number one,” she remembers. “I was about to sign an offer in Orange County, but Dr. Young flew me up here and stole the show.”

Dr. Deol instantly sensed there was something special about the Young Naturopathic Center for Wellness. She was drawn to the clinic not just for its reputation but for the genuine interest the team showed in her as a professional and an individual.

“They went out of their way to welcome me and get to know me,” she recalls. “I planned to live in SoCal near my family forever, so for me to move away, it speaks volumes about what this clinic has to offer its team and its patients.

Ask Dr. Deol to describe the Young Naturopathic Center for Wellness and she’ll use words like ‘patient-oriented’, ‘compassionate’, ‘ambitious’ and ‘transparent’. This alignment with her own values cemented her decision. Her passion for innovation and growth found a perfect match.

“This clinic is always hungry to do more and that brings out my athletic, competitive side,” she says. “We don’t stay stagnant. We’re constantly pushing to find the most cutting-edge therapies and be better for our patients.”

“There’s no template to heal a person. This clinic really understands that. Everyone works arduously to make sure that the patient’s experience is something they want to return to.”

A Call to Connection

Dr. Deol wears many hats at the Young Naturopathic Center for Wellness. Step into her office and you may first meet her in the role of listener. “The patient knows what they feel in their body the best. Always,” she asserts.

This emphasis on listening isn’t just the cornerstone of her philosophy. It’s what drew her to naturopathic medicine after seeing the difference it made for her mother, and it’s what she now calls her favorite part of the job. “If you truly listen, the answers can be found. You have to create a space where people are comfortable being vulnerable,” she explains. She does this by acknowledging the challenges her patients face and ensuring they are received with compassion rather than judgment.

As treatment commences, Dr. Deol assumes the role of cheerleader. She recognizes that health journeys can be long and arduous, with significant impacts on your quality of life. “The last thing I want is for it to be a solo venture,” she says. “If you don’t have someone in your corner rooting for you, what will inspire you to keep going? I want to be that person for you.”

For Dr. Deol, nothing is more important or rewarding than getting to know her patients. “That’s why I got into this field — not only to be a doctor, but to form lifelong connections. I get so much joy from that.”

“I want to build a genuine relationship with my patients. I never want them to feel like they’re just a passing shadow in the clinic.”

A Healthcare Detective

One of Dr. Deol’s most critical roles is that of healthcare detective. She sees herself as a tenacious sleuth, connecting health clues to get to the root cause of discomfort. This means looking and listening closely for subtle patterns that could crack cases left unsolved by other practitioners.

Many of us visit a doctor expecting to travel a simple path from symptoms, to tests, to diagnosis. In reality, that’s often not the case. “Just because your labs seem within normal range, doesn’t mean they’re telling you the truth. You may still feel terrible regardless of what the labs say,” Dr. Deol cautions.

For these more complex cases, she prioritizes honesty and transparency. “If you’ve been through the wringer with other doctors, I’m going to acknowledge that,” she promises, “and then I’ll work arduously ruling out different diagnoses until we get there.”

This type of detective work is a hallmark of naturopathic medicine. A naturopathic doctor looks beyond the physical state of the body, investigating mental, emotional, social, environmental and even spiritual factors that may be throwing the body into imbalance.

“Our bodies are so intelligent. They want to be in balance. They want to heal,” Dr. Deol says. “Doctors have to respect what patients feel from their own bodies so we can tap into that intelligence.”

“I delve into things that a lab test can’t read, because we’re multifaceted beings, and there’s more to us than lab results.”

A Renaissance Woman

Dr. Deol embodies her philosophy of balance both in and out of the treatment room. As a collegiate track athlete, she learned the importance of aligning physical health with inner well-being to reach peak performance. She also credits a lifetime of competitive sports with instilling a sense of determination in her.

“Now I bring that into my work,” she says. “I’m determined to get to the bottom of someone’s problem and help them score health wins.”

In tranquil moments off the track, you might find Dr. Deol indulging in her longtime creative outlet. “I’m a classically-trained pianist. I’ve been playing since I was four years old,” she says. Though she now has less time to devote to music, she reflects fondly on her experiences performing concerts and learning under a world-renowned classically trained concert pianist. “That also taught me discipline upon discipline,” she adds.

Connection with nature is inextricably linked with physical and mental health for Dr. Deol. Whether it’s bodyboarding at the beach, hiking through trails or foraging for herbs, she spends as much time outside as possible. “It helps me address my emotional and mental needs so I can leave my baggage at the clinic door and show up fully for my patients,” she says.

“I always say that the definition of wellness is not just that our physical bodies appear to be healthy, but that the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects are also in tune.”

A Vision for Health

Recent years have seen alarming rises in cancers, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and chronic inflammatory conditions. Coupled with increasing stress levels and the declining quality of the standard American diet, Dr. Deol believes the need for naturopathic medicine has never been greater.

Fortunately, she also believes the winds of change are stirring. “After the COVID pandemic, a lot of people realized that prevention is key and visits to naturopathic clinics went up,” she explains. This growing interest in integrative care is being met with expanding licensure and hospital privileges for naturopathic doctors across the country. Dr. Deol eagerly anticipates the day when naturopathic and conventional medicine work hand in hand.

“I have full respect for my MD and DO colleagues. I think they’re geniuses at what they do,” she says. “I hope that one day we can work alongside each other more often, because the patient needs all facets of healthcare.”

For now, Dr. Deol channels her hopes for the future of medicine into her daily work. She finds joy in exploring cutting-edge treatments and sharing her message of balance with patients. Most of all, she’s invigorated by the clinic’s growth and the promise it holds.

“Being at the Young Naturopathic Center for Wellness gets me excited for the future,” she says. “We’re expanding, and there are new treatment breakthroughs on the horizon. With more capabilities comes more healing and more lives transformed, and that’s why I chose this medicine.”
