B12 Infusions and Injections in Los Gatos

Front of house at YNC greeting customer (2)

Wired at 8am, flattened by 2pm, and nobody has explained why? Low B12 or poor absorption can be part of it.

At YNC in Los Gatos, B12 injections and IV infusions are guided by your symptoms, health history, and testing, not guesswork. The goal is simple: find out whether B12 is part of the problem before anyone reaches for a needle.

Why B12 at YNC

Plenty of places can give you a B12 shot. Almost none of them will tell you whether you needed one.

Serum B12 is a poor test on its own. It can read normal while your cells are still short. We run methylmalonic acid alongside it, because MMA shows what your body is actually doing with the B12 it has.

Dr. Renee Young, NMD, was among the first licensed naturopathic doctors in California and has run YNC as a doctor-owned practice since 2004. The clinic is LegitScript certified, and you get the testing and the treatment in one place, from the doctor who ordered the panel.

How IV & IM B12 Therapy Works?

Intramuscular injections and IV infusions bypass the digestive tract. The appropriate route depends on the prescribed formulation, its labeling, and the patient’s individual clinical needs.

Injections usually take a few minutes, while IV infusions generally take 30 to 60 minutes. Your dose and schedule are then adjusted according to your results and response.

B12 Options at Young Naturopathic Center for Wellness

Not every B12 problem needs the same answer. What we recommend depends on why your levels are low, how well you absorb nutrients, and what your panel shows.

  • B12 Injections: Quick intramuscular injections used for targeted support that fits your needs. We can also combine B12 with GLP-1 therapies like compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide.
  • B12 IV Infusions: Higher-dose support may be considered when more intensive support is appropriate or when B12 is being combined with other doctor-selected nutrients.
  • Custom Protocols: May include B12 with nutrients, such as B-complex, folate, magnesium, or vitamin C when testing suggests they’re needed.

Is a B12 Shot Better Than an Infusion?

People often ask if a shot or a drip is better. It depends on your symptoms and goals. Here is how we break it down:

Comparison B12 Injections B12 Infusions
Delivery Into muscle Into a vein
Absorption Gradual release Immediate availability
Session time A few mins 30 to 60 mins
Dose level Moderate dosing Higher doses when appropriate
Best for Ongoing support More intensive support
Frequency Weekly, or as indicated Based on labs and response
Add-ons B12 only or with GLP-1 Fully customized nutrient stack

Is B12 Therapy Right for You?

Low energy does not automatically mean low B12. We would rather confirm the problem than guess at it.

B12 is not a cure-all for fatigue. Where a deficiency is confirmed, correcting it supports normal energy metabolism, red blood cell formation and nerve function. Where there is no deficiency, it does none of those things, which is why we test first.

It is worth investigating if you have:

  • Possible absorption issues: digestive disorders, gastrointestinal surgery, age-related changes.
  • Diet or medication factors: plant-based diet, metformin, acid-reducing medication.
  • Symptoms needing investigation: fatigue, brain fog, poor focus, unexplained low energy.

What to Expect at YNC

Consultation

Your first visit is a doctor-led review of your symptoms, health history, medications, diet and goals. Fatigue gets treated as a signal to investigate, not a one-line complaint.

Consultations are in person at our Los Gatos clinic, a short drive from San Jose, Campbell and Saratoga. They run 30 minutes for a specific problem, or an hour for a full workup.

Advanced B-12 Testing

We test B12 levels, methylmalonic acid and related markers, so we can see what your body is doing with B12 rather than what a single number says.

Where the picture is broader than B12, we may run advanced nutritional testing such as NutrEval to look for other deficiencies, cofactors, or signs of impaired absorption

Personalized Plan

If B12 therapy fits, your doctor sets the route, the dose, the frequency, any supporting nutrients and the retest date.

Then we track it. If your numbers and your symptoms are both moving, we hold the plan. If they are not, we go looking for what else is going on.

FAQs

Is B12 Therapy Safe?
It is, as long as it’s being handled by a licensed doctor who looks at your history, labs, and symptoms to make sure it’s a good fit. But there may be some mild side effects like:

  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Itching
  • Headache
  • Hot flashes

We’ll walk through all of that during your visit, so you know exactly what to expect.

How Often Should I Get Injections or Infusions?
We set your starting schedule from your blood work, usually weekly to begin with. Then we retest and adjust to what the results show.
Why Can't I Just Take a B12 Supplement?
For most people, oral B12 is the right answer and we will tell you so. Oral B12 is appropriate for many patients. Injectable B12 may be considered when a confirmed deficiency is present and a licensed provider determines that oral therapy is not appropriate or has not produced an adequate response.
