Prolozone Therapy® (Pain Management)
It’s no secret that oxygen is central to life. But it’s not just the act of breathing that’s essential — we need oxygen flowing through every cell in our body, fueling the activities our body must perform each day to remain functional, healthy and energized.
One of oxygen’s most important roles in the body is supporting our natural healing processes. Without sufficient oxygen, our body lacks the critical building blocks it needs to repair itself, resulting in discomfort and physical limitations.
Prolozone Therapy is a regenerative medicine technique that works with the body to reconstruct damaged or injured tissue. By supporting your body’s inherent healing power, Prolozone addresses the underlying causes of musculoskeletal pain and restores your ability to lead an active life.
I’ve had Chronic Cervical Pain Syndrome in my neck and shoulder since 2019. I’ve done 2 rounds of cortisone injections, traditional pain injections. NO help. After my first Prolozone injection, I had pain relief after 15 minutes! I was amazed to have a higher level of relief instantly! Looking forward to my next round of injections and hope to rid of this pain once and for all.

What Is Prolozone Therapy?
Prolozone Therapy is an injection technique that uses oxygen in the form of ozone to promote healing and alleviate chronic or acute pain. The name comes from the Latin word proli, which means to rebuild or regenerate, and the word ozone. Prolozone Therapy was developed by Dr. Frank Shallenberger, a pioneer in the fields of ozone therapy, oxygen utilization and anti-aging medicine.
The conventional solutions to many types of musculoskeletal and joint pain are prescription medications or invasive reconstructive surgeries. Prolozone injections allow us to address many of the same issues with a non-addictive, minimally-invasive, in-office procedure.
How Does Prolozone Therapy Work?
Ozone is a powerful healing agent that consists of three oxygen molecules (O3) instead of the two found in the oxygen we breathe (O2). The Prolozone treatment combines ozone, anti-inflammatories, vitamins and minerals that are injected directly into the damaged tissue. This has three positive effects on the body:
- Anti-inflammatory medications reduce swelling, ease pain and promote blood circulation
- Vitamins and minerals flood the area with nutrients that are critical for healing
- Ozone increases oxygen in the area to stimulate growth factors and tissue regeneration
Together, these processes jumpstart your natural ability to heal yourself. A personalized treatment protocol can help your pain subside naturally and stabilize the damaged area by strengthening the tissue.
What Is Prolozone Used For?
Prolozone Therapy has shown positive effects on various musculoskeletal and joint pain issues, including:
- Neck and back pain

- Tennis elbow and other sports injuries

How Effective Is Prolozone Therapy?
Prolozone injections have demonstrated a high rate of success in relieving pain. Some patients feel the relief immediately, and in some cases, the pain does not return. In addition to pain relief, patients report experiencing decreased inflammation, increased mobility and flexibility, and improved quality of life.
The great thing about Prolozone is that it is not only a treatment for pain. Because it promotes tissue regeneration, it helps repair the source of the pain, which can mean a permanent fix to the issue.
The Prolozone injections have been amazing! They have helped relieve my pain in several parts of my body. Dr. Young makes it easy and painless. What Is the Difference Between Prolozone and Cortisone?
Cortisone (steroid) injections are given to help relieve pain and inflammation in a specific area of the body (typically a joint). The purpose of cortisone shots is to mask pain temporarily, not to address its underlying cause. The potential side effects of cortisone injections increase with larger doses and repeated use, so doctors limit the number of cortisone shots a patient can receive per year.
Prolozone injections can result in permanent pain relief. By stimulating the damaged tendon, ligament, muscle or joint to repair itself, the body can heal from acute and chronic injuries. Most people need a limited number of treatments per area to achieve maximum improvement.
What Is the Difference Between Prolozone and Ozone Therapy?
Our ozone therapy treatments also utilize the healing capabilities of oxygen, but instead of being applied directly to an area of pain or injury, they are administered via IV into the bloodstream. Ozone therapy optimizes your oxygen levels so your body is better equipped to repair itself and fight off inflammation, infection and disease.
How Is Prolozone Administered?
Prolozone Therapy involves two simple steps. First, a healing agent is injected into the damaged tissue, ensuring it reaches the entire targeted area. Next, medical ozone is introduced to promote healing. You will be seated or lying in a comfortable position throughout the procedure.

Before your treatment, please:
- Refrain from using anti-inflammatory drugs for 24 hours
- Let us know if you have had any other injections recently
- Wear clothing that leaves the area of concern easily accessible
After your Prolozone injections, you may immediately return to work and activities like driving. There is no downtime.
Are Prolozone Injections Painful?
Patients describe a sensation of fullness in the injected area immediately after treatment. Although this can feel odd, it is generally not painful, and it subsides after a few minutes. The area may feel mildly sore and achy for the first day or two.
How Long Does Prolozone Take to Work?
Prolozone provides rapid relief to many patients. A noticeable decrease in pain typically occurs within three to seven days. If there is still pain after this timeframe, additional injections may be needed.
How Many Prolozone Treatments Are Recommended?
The response to Prolozone Therapy varies from person to person. Most people need three to six treatments per area to achieve the best results. The injections are repeated every four to six weeks until maximum improvement is reached.
I’ve been dealing with knee pain, emanating from my hip since April. I have seen my orthopedist, physical therapist, masseuse and chiropractor. I started the injections with Dr Young about 3 weeks ago, and have seen tremendous improvement in my muscle and joint pain. My sports masseuse was able to give Dr Young some specific feedback on affected muscles; Dr Young gave me the Prolozone injections and now my knee pain is just about gone. They have significantly improved the overall arthritic aches in my knee and my hip muscles have significantly calmed. I highly recommend this impressive therapy as a game changer for people suffering from chronic joint or muscle pain.

How Long Does Prolozone Last?
Results depend on the severity of the injury and how your unique body responds to the treatment. Prolozone injections can lead to significant pain reduction, and for some patients, the treatment permanently reverses chronic pain.
