Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Los Gatos

HBOT tanks

You used to bounce back after workouts, late nights, or even an illness. Now, recovery takes time, pain lingers, and your energy doesn’t rebound like it once did.

When your body can’t keep up with healing, even small setbacks can leave you feeling drained and limited.

At the Young Naturopathic Center for Wellness, we offer FDA-approved Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), a science-backed treatment that helps improve cellular repair, reduce inflammation, and restore energy.

You can get the biggest longevity benefit from HBOT by combining with our world-class testingVO2 Max performance insights, or see one of our functional medicine doctors to get you feeling back to your best.

By safely increasing oxygen delivery, HBOT helps your body perform and recover at its best. Our doctors oversee every session, so you receive a personalized and comfortable experience.

How HBOT Helps Our Patients

People often turn to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy when recovery is taking longer than expected, energy remains low, or other treatments haven’t delivered the results they were hoping for.

After a series of sessions, many notice improvements such as:

“I use HBOT myself and see the difference in my own health. After a session, my sleep is deeper, my energy is steadier, and even my eyesight feels sharper. Patients tell me the same — from athletes who recover from tendon injuries faster, to individuals with autoimmune flares who finally find relief.”
Dr. Renee Young

Conditions We Commonly Support with HBOT

At our Los Gatos Clinic, we use Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to support healing, recovery, and overall vitality.

Some conditions are FDA-approved and may be covered by insurance, while others are supported by growing research and clinical experience.

HBOT is most often recommended for:

  • Healing and recovery: Chronic or slow-healing wounds, post-surgical recovery, athletic performance, and recovery
  • Joint pain and inflammation: Arthritis, fibromyalgia, and other inflammatory conditions
  • Neurological health: Concussion care, migraine management, post-stroke recovery, cognitive function support
  • Chronic fatigue and autoimmune conditions: Restoring energy and supporting long-term balance
  • Skin and longevity: Collagen support, tissue repair, recovery from radiation treatment
  • Serious emergencies: Carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness, severe anemia (when transfusions are not possible)
  • Other concerns: Sudden hearing or vision loss, bone and gum infections, sleep-related issues

What Your HBOT Journey Looks Like at YNC

Every HBOT plan at our Los Gatos clinic begins with a one-on-one consultation. One of our licensed naturopathic doctors will review your history and discuss your goals to determine if HBOT is right for you.

If it is, we’ll create a personalized plan outlining:

  • Number of sessions you may need
  • How often should you come in
  • Any complementary therapies, such as LightStim or IV support that could enhance your results.

Getting Ready for Treatment

When you arrive, we’ll update your health notes, answer any questions, and help you feel at ease. Wear comfortable cotton clothing, have a light snack about an hour before the treatment, and bring water for after the treatment. For safety, items like jewelry, lighters, and electronic devices can’t go into the chamber.

Inside the Hyperbaric Chamber

Our FDA-approved HBOT chambers are roomy and have speakers so you can relax with music, a podcast, or an audiobook.

Sessions last 60–90 minutes, during which you breathe medical-grade oxygen as the pressure gently increases (similar to being on an airplane). Our team monitors every session for safety and comfort.

After Your Session

Most people return to normal activities right away. Some feel refreshed, while others may be a little tired for a few hours. Ear popping is also common as your body adjusts.

For best results, stay hydrated, eat nourishing food, and avoid alcohol, caffeine, hot showers, or high-altitude activities for 24 hours.

If your plan includes complementary therapies such as red light therapy or IV support, we’ll coordinate these around your HBOT schedule.

“I cannot say enough good things about my care at the Young Naturopathic Center. I have been helped by both Dr. Young and Dr. Chrystal. I started coming to the center as an effort to focus on longevity…I have done hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), and that was a great experience as well. The machines are meticulously clean, and they make it very comfortable while you are getting the treatment. I felt very relaxed, and it felt like it went quickly.”

Why We Offer HBOT at YNC

The Science Behind HBOT

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy helps by delivering oxygen to your lungs while under pressure. That combination allows oxygen to dissolve directly into your plasma, not just your red blood cells.

The result is a dramatic increase in circulation to tissues that normally receive very little oxygen, like tendons, joints, and areas of chronic inflammation.

Research shows that sessions at medical-grade pressure can increase oxygen delivery by over 1,000%. This oxygen “bathes” your tissues, sparks natural repair signals, and triggers a cascade called HIF-1 alpha — your body’s way of switching on healing and regeneration.

It’s why patients often notice improvements in recovery, energy, and mental clarity after a series of treatments.

Could HBOT Help You?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is safe, evidence-based, and a little different from what most people are used to. It may be a great fit if you:

  • Want a science-forward approach beyond conventional medication
  • Haven’t seen results with other treatments
  • Have symptoms that don’t fit a clear diagnosis
  • Are looking to support recovery, longevity, and healthy aging with cutting-edge care

HBOT and Biological Aging

One of the most exciting areas of HBOT research is its effect on the biology of aging and longevity. At Young Naturopathic Center for Wellness, we can measure your biological age — how well your body is functioning compared to your actual years — using tests like:

  • VO₂ Max testing: A measure of cardiovascular fitness and endurance, closely tied to longevity.
  • Methylated DNA blood testing: A lab-based marker that reveals how your genes are expressing and how quickly you’re aging at the cellular level.

Research has shown that a series of hyperbaric oxygen sessions can improve both of these markers. HBOT has been linked to:

  • Better cardiovascular performance through enhanced oxygen delivery.
  • Longer telomeres, the protective “caps” on your DNA that shorten with age.
  • Increased stem cell production, helping the body repair and regenerate more effectively.

In simple terms, HBOT can support your body in aging more gracefully, with more energy and resilience over time.

When It May Not Be the Best Choice

HBOT isn’t suitable for everyone. You may not be a candidate if you have:

  • Severe lung disease or a collapsed lung
  • Recent ear injury or chest surgery
  • Uncontrolled seizures or active respiratory infection
  • Severe claustrophobia

Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Safe?

When performed under medical supervision, HBOT is considered safe. At our Los Gatos clinic, we follow thelatest FDA guidelines, and our chambers are carefully maintained and tested for your safety.

Why patients trust our HBOT care:

  • Licensed naturopathic doctors oversee every session
  • A trained HBOT team maintains and tests the chambers regularly
  • Clear safety protocols for each treatment
  • Supportive staff stay with you from start to finish

Stepping into a pressurized chamber can feel intimidating, that’s why we walk you through the process and monitor you closely during every session.

Other Therapies to Support Your Health Goals

If HBOT isn’t the right fit, we’ll offer the following therapies to help you reach your wellness goals:

  • NAD+ Therapy: Supports brain health, energy, and focus; often helpful for cognitive decline and brain fog.
  • Ozone Therapy: Reduces pain, strengthens immunity, and improves circulation.
  • IV Therapy: Delivers targeted nutrients for whole-body support, energy, and recovery.

These therapies can be used alone or combined with other treatments to create a plan tailored to you.

Not sure which therapy is right for you? Our doctors will guide you toward the best option for your needs.

FAQs

Is HBOT Covered By Insurance?
Most modern uses of HBOT as part of functional medicine and longevity medicine aren’t covered by insurance. That said, some conditions such as non-healing diabetic ulcers, are. Please contact us to discuss further!
How Many HBOT Sessions are Needed?
The number of sessions depends on your health goals and unique needs. Some patients benefit from several treatments within a few days, while others do best with sessions spaced out over weeks. During your consultation, we’ll design a personalized plan that fits your lifestyle and maximizes results.
Can HBOT be Combined with Other Treatments?
We can plan HBOT as part of an entire health and wellness plan. IV therapy, aesthetics care, anti-aging, and longevity treatments are some of the popular options that go well with HBOT.
When Should I Avoid HBOT?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is very safe when supervised, but there are times when it may not be the right choice. You should let your provider know if any of the following apply:

  • Cold, flu, or sinus infection – congestion can make it difficult or painful to equalize ear pressure.
  • Fever or recent illness – treatment may need to be postponed until you’re well.
  • Ear or sinus surgery (recent) – added pressure could interfere with healing.
  • Severe or uncontrolled asthma – breathing under pressure can worsen symptoms.
  • Pregnancy – HBOT is not usually recommended unless prescribed for a specific medical reason.
  • Uncontrolled diabetes – HBOT can lower blood sugar, so glucose levels should be stable before treatment.
  • Certain medical implants or devices – pacemakers, insulin pumps, or other devices must be cleared by your HBOT provider.
  • Smoking or nicotine use – this reduces the effectiveness of oxygen therapy and should be stopped before starting treatment.

What Does HBOT Feel Like?
HBOT is comfortable, and some people even find it relaxing. But some people feel their ears pop, like on a plane, during the session.
How Can I Clear My Ears During HBOT?
As the chamber pressurizes, you may feel fullness in your ears, similar to being on an airplane. To relieve this, try one of these techniques:

  • Pinch your nose, close your mouth, and blow gently (like popping your ears on a plane).
  • Swallow, yawn, or sip to help equalize pressure naturally.
  • Move your jaw side to side if swallowing alone doesn’t help.

If you still feel discomfort, let the technician know right away so they can slow the pressurization.

What Are the Risks of HBOT?
HBOT is safe and well-tolerated, with a low risk of side effects, some of these include:

  • Ear pain
  • Sinus pain or congestion
  • Temporary visual disturbances
  • Fatigue
  • Light-headedness
  • Seizures
  • Lung collapse (pneumothorax)

Serious side effects are rare, and we’ll be monitoring you the whole time to keep things safe and comfortable.

Are There Any Age Restrictions for HBOT?
HBOT is suitable for people of all ages, though adjustments may be made for children and seniors based on their medical history. All patients should be able to understand, consider, and remember the potential benefits and risks.
How Quickly Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Work?
HBOT begins to work immediately, though it may be a few weeks before you notice the benefits. This will depend on your goals, needs, and medical history.
Do I Need a Prescription for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Yes, a prescription is required. Our licensed NDs will provide it for you.
What Should I Wear During HBOT Treatment?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to relax and move freely, cotton is ideal. As part of our safety checks, we’ll make sure your clothing is compatible with hyperbaric therapy.
